Barclays: Mobile banking customers offered free security software

Barclays' mobile banking customers will receive a free security software package, as part of a new offer announced by the bank today.

The offer enables customers who log on to the mobile banking website to download security software designed by Kaspersky, a leading software firm based in Russia.

Barclays also announced that its customers would benefit from a revamped mobile banking website, which the bank claims will make accessing online banking from a mobile phone "more intuitive".

Sean Gilchrist, director for electronic banking at Barclays, said: "It's important that customers protect their mobile phones in the same way they do their computers from all threats by downloading this new software."

Recently, Barclays announced another new technology update with the introduction of contactless debit cards.

The cards enable users to save time by paying for anything worth up to ten pounds without having to enter a pin number.
