Women take longer to pass driving test, Confused.com finds

It takes women longer than men to pass their driving test, according to a poll by a price comparison site.

Questioning motorists on their experiences of learning to drive, Confused.com found that females need an average of 21 lessons before they are ready to pass their test, while men need just 17.

In addition, the boys are more likely to pass on their first attempt, with just 54 per cent needing more than one try, compared to 57 per cent of girls.

A spokesman for the website said that women had admitted to getting more nervous than men before their test, which may explain why they often need another attempt.

When they do pass their test, it was found by Confused.com that Northern Ireland is the safest place for cars, with 0.7 per cent of its customers from the region claiming for car-related crime in the past five years.
