The Children's Mutual Shariah Baby Bond launched

The Children's Mutual Shariah Baby Bond has been launched and is aimed at Britain's 100,000 Muslim families.

David White, chief executive of the Children's Mutual, said that so far many Muslim families have been unable to use the vouchers given to them by the government to open a child trust fund, as no Shariah compliant ones were available.

He said: "What is vital for these families is that they act now, so their child isn't allocated an account that's not Shariah compliant."

The Shariah Baby Bond is being offered in conjunction with Scottish Widows Investment Partnership (SWIP).

It invests in shares that are listed in the FTSE Global Islamic Index and is managed by a team that is supervised by the Shariah Advisory Board of Scholars.
