Prices on the rise, says moneysupermarket.com energy

The cost of utilities is set to increase in the future as a result of wholesale prices, according to a moneysupermarket.com energy expert.

Utilities manager at the comparison site Scot Byrom explained that wholesale energy hit a year-high last week and this is bound to have an effect on the deals available to consumers.

He made these comments after moneysupermarket.com energy highlighted how three of the top six providers have withdrawn their cheapest contracts.

"While energy prices for existing customers haven't started to rise yet, the withdrawal of these deals for new customers is a sure sign that pressure is building for energy price rises," explained Mr Byrom.

In his view, one method of saving money is to opt for a dual fuel deal, which could mean customers spend up to 22 per cent less.

This month, a representative from the same firm described it as a "mystery" why many people have never switched energy providers before, considering some are paying more than they need to.
