Virgin Money: Brits to spend £19.8 billion on keeping fit

Britons are set to spend £19.8 billion on keeping fit this year, according to a new survey from Virgin Money.

Virgin Money found that £907 million will be spent on clothes including t-shirts, jogging bottoms and shoes.

Meanwhile, £4.75 billion will go on activities such as yoga, aerobics and the gym.

"The amount of money that we invest in sports every year in incredible when you add it all up," said a Virgin Money spokesman.

He added that despite it being a large amount of money, at least people who invest in such pastimes are using it to improve their health.

Virgin Money surveyed 2,500 adults across the UK and found that the most popular sporting hobbies were football, golf, squash, badminton, biking, skiing, rugby, fishing and cricket.

However, it was the bikers that spent the most on equipment, with £3.41 billion being spent on cycling and mountain biking.
