Expert: Look around for financial deals

Consumers who are proactive about seeking out better financial deals may be rewarded with cost savings, one expert has claimed.

Cesarina Holm-Kander, financial columnist and television presenter, explained that people should consistently search for the best deals, adding that "it doesn't matter where the market's sitting".

She stated that the average family in Britain could be "wasting" thousands of pound each year by not shopping around for deals.

"A lot of people are scared about personal finance and there's absolutely no reason to be," Ms Holm-Kander remarked.

She advised people to "get smart, get savvy [and] get informed" about their financial situation in the new year.

Research carried out by Your Money Matters and Tickbox indicates that one-third of Britons believe that property prices may crash during 2008.

Meanwhile, more than one-quarter said they think the value of the pound will fall and a recession could be on the horizon.
