Credit crunch 'is not stopping people from marrying'

It seems love really does conquer all. The credit crunch is not preventing people from getting married, Wedding Ideas magazine has said.

Editor Rachel Moschke said that while couples are cutting costs by doing a lot of the work by themselves, involving friends and family can add "personalisation" and make a day "unique".

She said: "We are not finding that [the credit crunch] is stopping people from getting married at all."

There is a "massive market" for DIY invitations and favours, she said, and added that marrying on a weekday can lower venue prices.

Ms Moschke said she has seen weddings on a budget of £500 and £40,000 and "one isn't better than the other".

But she added that dresses need not be excessively expensive and said: "There are stunning things out there for people on a budget. You just have to know where to look."

A Devon couple are spending less than £600 on their wedding.

Odette Fenwick and Christopher May bought almost everything they need on eBay, budget shops and second-hand stores.
