AA: Brits re-educating themselves in recession

Research conducted by the AA has revealed that the UK is turning into a nation of "self-preneurs", or people who invest in themselves to improve their value.

The AA study revealed that as the recession looms, 67 per cent of people in the UK are considering taking some kind of course in a bid to improve their employability and earning potential.

Of those looking to retrain, 47 per cent said they were attracted by the appeal of a potential new job, whereas 39 per cent said they wanted to develop their existing careers.

Pablo Lloyd, deputy chief executive of Learndirect, said: "Given the current state of the economy there's every reason for people to take a look at their skills and think about improving them."

The AA's head of personal loans said he was predicting a rise in personal loan requests by people looking to pay for educational courses.

Earlier today a survey released by Moneysupermarket.com showed that the cost of personal loans had increased in recent months.
