AA highlights increase in price for car insurance for young drivers

Car insurance for young drivers has significantly increased in price over the past few months, according to new research by the AA.

Director of AA Insurance Simon Douglas claimed that the cost of policies is rising at its fastest ever rate in the 16 years that his organisation has been tracking such figures.

He remarked: "In just three months, premiums rose on average by 11.5 per cent and, for drivers under the age of 30, by 13.4 per cent to £1,128."

Mr Douglas revealed the price of a typical insurance policy rose by over 30 per cent in the past year, with the average premium costing about £704.

In his view, one of the major factors affecting the situation is the number of young people defrauding insurance companies.

Last month, AA unveiled Learner Driver Insurance, which allows youngsters to get practice behind the wheel in the run-up to their tests, something that can prove useful when it comes to the big day.
