Brits 'worried about dealing with debt'

Dealing with debt is becoming a concern for an increasing number of UK adults, according to one company.

Research by MoneyExpert.com has revealed that 30 per cent of Britons are anxious about controlling their personal debt in the current economic climate.

Of those already in debt, more than a quarter (27 per cent) have seen the amounts they owe slip further out of their control over the last quarter.

Sean Gardner, director of MoneyExpert.com said the figures are "extremely worrying".

"Nothing is so stark as a reminder that many of us are struggling to repay the money we owe," he said.

More encouraging was the finding that 17 per cent of respondents have been able to reduce their debts, while 27 per cent have kept them constant.

The figures come after Just Retirement revealed that 24 per cent of people approaching retirement age are in debt.
