'Masculine' women receive bulkier salaries, finds study

Female employees who adopt a more hard-line and 'masculine' attitude in the workplace are likely to be paid significantly more than their meeker counterparts, it has been discovered.

A study undertaken by Guido Heineck of the Institute for Employment Research in Nuremberg concluded that women who adopt a more masculine approach to their work earn up to £40,000 more annually than those who do not, reports the Daily Mail.

'Alpha females' earn around four per cent more than their quieter counterparts, it was also discovered, while women deemed to be moody or neurotic were found to have salaries three per cent lower than average.

"Our statistics show that being nice does not pay for women, whereas working hard does. This is probably, in part, because agreeable people are too passive in conflict situations and are poorer wage negotiators," explained Mr Heineck.

There are some situations in which a little femininity pays dividends, according to a poll conducted by Diva and YouGov last year. It found that one in four women have turned on the charm in order to escape discipline for motoring offences.
