BT 'planning further price hikes this year'

Customers of BT may be interested to know that the company is planning to raise its prices again as of this autumn.

From October 1st, the cost of making a phone call from its landlines will rise to 5.25 pence per minute, with the call set-up fee also set to increase to 9.05 pence per call for BT customers making non-inclusive calls.

The move has been described by uSwitch.com communications expert Steve Weller as coming at "a time when every penny counts to consumers".

He added: "Those customers who are tied into a 12-month contract and who are going to be hit by this move should challenge BT to see if they can get a better deal."

The changes equate to a 34 per cent increase in call charges since January, uSwitch.com further pointed out.

Although it was established in the UK, BT has expanded to become an international firm and now operates in 170 countries across the world.
