Sainsburys Finance hails good news for car industry

New research from Sainsburys Finance shows that the number of people looking to buy a car has increased by a significant amount over the past year.

Head of loans at the firm Steven Baillie described how the situation is great news for the car industry and shows that the end of the car scrappage scheme has not led to a fall in customers.

The Sainsburys Finance car buying index shows that 7.68 million people intend to purchase a vehicle between September 2010 and February 2011, which is a 49 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.

"We've been conducting our car buying index for the past seven years and our findings would indicate that the numbers looking to purchase a car are certainly starting to pick up again," said Mr Baillie.

Last week, the firm revealed that many British drivers are unaware of differences in driving regulations in other parts of Europe and may end up breaking laws while they are overseas.
