Savings account supplier Santander 'taking action to combat complaints'

Director of service quality and complaints at the firm Steve Williams noted that the firm has plenty to do to, but highlighted how it has introduced several initiatives to cut the number of gripes being recorded.
He gave the example of 600 new staff being hired across branches and call centres with the intention of reducing queuing.
"Santander takes customer service very seriously and so we are very pleased to see improving trends relative to the industry, in particular the significant reduction in our uphold rate," Mr Williams remarked.
His comments were made after the Financial Ombudsman Service released its complaints data for the six months to June 30th 2010, with Santander seeing 4,881 cases referred to the organisation.
Last month, Santander published its own figures relating to the number of complaints it received during the same period, with the firm seeing 245,000 expressions of dissatisfaction.
