Abbey extends 9.1 per cent savings account offer

Savers can continue to invest in Abbey's Super Saver offer until September 7th after the building society extended the offer.

The limited edition 12-month, fixed-rate account offers 9.1 per cent if customers place an equal amount or more into any Abbey investment product.

Conditions stipulate a minimum deposit of £1 and a maximum investment of £2 million.

Abbey says the Super Saver allows customers to access all of their balance without being penalised.

They also have the choice of interest payment annually or monthly, with no interest penalty if they wish to close to bond early.

Abbey's investment range includes the Multi-Manager and Premium Investments.

Reza Attar-Zadeh, director of savings and investments at Abbey, said the Super Saver offered customers "a diversified portfolio to save for their future".

New figures show that Britons are increasingly choosing to deposit their savings in building societies, according to a London Stock Exchange report of data from the Building Societies Association.

The figures showed that building society savings accounts received £853 million in May - up from £603 million in April.

According to the report, this was the highest monthly figure since 2002.
