Recession 'has not dampened the ambition of young adults'

Youngsters aged between 18 and 21 in the UK have not had their determination to succeed extinguished by the economic downturn, a new survey has indicated.

According to the poll, undertaken on behalf of Alliance & Leicester, the average salary expectation among males of this age group is £44,600 within the next ten years. This figure was found to be £34,800 among their female counterparts.

When it comes to property, seven out of ten respondents said they expect to be on the property ladder by the time they are 30 years old.

Head of Abbey and Alliance & Leicester current accounts Andy Bayes said that amid the current economic troubles, it is more important than ever to lend support to youngsters attempting to forge their futures.

"It is essential that those looking to start their career have access to good sources of advice, information and inspiration," he added.

Meanwhile, those teenagers planning to make the big move away to university this September have this week been offered the chance to open Lloyds TSB's new Student Account 2009.
