Alex Edmans, care funding adviser at the company, made his comments following news from the Department of Health that a quarter of the population falsely believe the government will pay for them to go into a care home.
He pointed out that it is a confusing situation for people, which needs to be resolved by giving people clear information so that they can understand it.
But research by Saga showed that even if people understand it they may not be happy about it, as 46 per cent of those surveyed said they thought the government showed pay for the care of the elderly.
"The stark reality is that anyone who requires care in a care home and has assets over £23,000, which can include property, will have to pay for their care in full themselves," he added.
Last week, a spokesperson for the company warned that plans to scrap GP catchment areas could have a negative effect on retirees.
