Brits opting to stay home over Bank Holiday, says esure

Motor insurance provider esure has claimed that many people in the UK will be staying at home over the Bank Holiday weekend to avoid travel delays.

Almost seven per cent of people who travelled during the May Bank Holiday told esure that they are unwilling to do so again this weekend.

The insurer estimates that four million motorists will find themselves stuck in jams lasting an average of 90 minutes.

Mike Pickard, esure's head of risk and underwriting, said that delays are even more likely if the weather is good this weekend.

"To avoid getting hot under the collar, whatever the weather, drivers should always check the travel news before setting off and ensure that their vehicle and its passengers are prepared for the journey," he suggested.

Last week, Halifax Travel Insurance warned people looking to fly abroad for the weekend that airlines have no obligation to compensate passengers for delayed flights.
