Skipton launches "Pick'n'Fix" bonds online

Three new bonds have been launched online by Skipton Building Society.

A one, two or three-year fixed rate bond carries interest of 6.75 per cent gross pa until August 31 2009, 2010 or 2011 respectively.

The monthly income options for the bonds are 6.50 per cent until those dates.

Minimum investment is £500, with the maximum £50,000, or £100,000 in the case of a joint account.

Customers may open more than one bond but the total investment must not exceed the limit.

Steve Aldous, general manager at Skipton, said the "Pick'n'Fix" bonds have "always been popular" and that online access offers "added flexibility".

Baronworth Investment Services has just announced an improvement in longer term guaranteed bond rates - meaning bonds of two or more years.

It said the rates have improved "considerably" for investments of £100,000 or more and are probably more desirable for people who dislike the Financial Services Compensation Scheme's £35,000 limit.
