A study by confused.com has found that it is not just the cost of travel and accommodation that varies between destinations, but also the expenses on arrival.
Skiers who opt for Courcheval can expect to pay €228 for a six-day ski pass, but winter sports enthusiasts who opt for Montgenevre instead will only have to fork out €181 to gain access to the slopes.
Even the cost of a pizza can vary wildly, with holidaymakers in Courcheval shelling out €16 for their dinner, compared to the €7.50 in Serre Chevalier.
Steve Williams, head of travel insurance at Confused.com, said: "As a result of rocketing prices and a weak euro, the Alps are at their most expensive. People need to budget correctly to ensure all they need is affordable once they have arrived."
Those who opted to stay at home could still be in for an expensive winter, with 73 per cent of consumers stating that they are worried about how much their next fuel bill will cost, according to the price comparison site.
