Scottish Widows finds UK families inadequately covered

A new survey from Scottish Widows has revealed that the vast majority of parents are not providing enough financial coverage for their families.

The statistics showed that over one third of UK parents don't have any form of life insurance. This means that should a parent suddenly pass away, their family could be in for a serious financial jolt.

Furthermore, of those who don't have life insurance, only 20 per cent have a mortgage.

As a result over 9 million parents would forced to rely on state benefits, savings, or hand outs if they became critically ill or were unable to work.

Nick Kirwan, director of protection marketing is concerned that so few people are financially prepared for a life-changing incident such as an accident, death, or even the birth of a child.

He added: "There is a very real and pragmatic need to consider how loved ones will be provided for should the worst happen."
