Within the first year of taking up an American Express Motor Insurance a brand new car is offered if customers cars are written off or stolen and Mr Mason suggested this will appeal to owners of brand new cars.
A no claims discount of up to 70 per cent on American Express Motor Insurance is described as competitive, but Mr Mason pointed out that "Sheilas' Wheels and Tesco also offer this cover".
Overall Mr Mason suggested that the impact of such a big brand as American Express moving into the motor insurance market has not had the expected impact.
"For those looking to make maximum savings it will still make sense to shop around for the best deal on each vehicle individually," he added.
American Express Motor Insurance was launched earlier this week and the new product was described by the company as "insurance for all".
