British holiday patterns are changing, says Portman Building Society Travel Insurance

Annual holidays are becoming a thing of the past, according to new research conducted by Portman Building Society.

Over a third of Brits surveyed for Portman Building Society Travel Insurance said they now take foreign holidays between two and five times per year.

A general pattern emerged whereby people take a single two week trip abroad and then allow themselves further, shorter breaks throughout the year – 55 per cent of people revealed that they now plan their holidays in this way.

Portman has warned that as habits change people need to adjust their travel insurance policies to ensure they are not losing out on potential money saving deals.

Helen Shaw, group communications manager at Portman Building Society, said: "Single trip insurance may seem like a cheaper deal at the time but added up over a year it can become expensive for those who travel more than twice a year."

The Portman Building society employs over 2,300 staff at its 143 branches around the country.
