Amex: Don't pack too many valuables

Those people taking a holiday are being encouraged not to pack too many items into their luggage with a high cumulative value.

Research carried out by American Express Insurance shows that over two fifths of holidaygoers pack items of clothing, jewellery and watches which have a cumulative value of more than £250.

However, the group advises people to leave items with sentimental or high value at home.

Joanne Field, marketing manager at American Express, said: "Many travellers do not read their policy terms and conditions before travelling and are unaware that insurers impose a single item limit and a valuables total limit.

"We would encourage everyone to be sure they know what they are purchasing when choosing travel insurance and what they are covered for," she added.

The most popular American Express insurance product, the annual classic, allows for a single item limit of £250 and a valuables limit of £300.
