Motorists urged to retain concentration

Motorists have to take particular care when driving with children in the car, according to new research.

A study from LV= General Insurance reveals that nearly eight million drivers point to having had children in the car as the reason they lost concentration when driving.

Latest annual government figures indicate that some 150,000 car accidents in the UK were caused by distractions in the vehicle.

Andrew Beard of LV= General Insurance said that drivers could prepare thoroughly to keep children preoccupied on journeys.

Taking travel games and books was a good way of achieving this, while taking breaks could enable children and pets to get rid of pent up energy.

Mr Beard said: "On today's busy roads, with 16 per cent of accidents having fatal or serious consequences, it is vital to maintain 100 per cent concentration when behind the wheel.

"It is frightening to think what can happen in the split second when drivers take their mind of the road," he added.
