Eco-friendly car insurance 'increasing in popularity'

The number of motorists opting for eco-friendly car insurance is on the rise, according to MORE TH>N.

According to Nick Dear, external communications consultant with the firm, 22 million drivers would consider switching to a hybrid car, such as the Toyota Prius, if it was cheaper to run than a normal car, so insurance companies need to meet that demand.

He also noted that 74 per cent of motorists are "seriously concerned" about rising petrol prices, which could be contributing to the popularity of environmentally-friendly vehicles, which typically use less fuel than standard cars.

Mr Dear added that it is "important to note" that the increased take-up of green car insurance "could be in part down to the fact that there are more hybrid cars on the roads these days".

A recent Motorpoint survey found that three out of five people who purchase a 2008 registered car will take home a vehicle with lower carbon emissions than their previous one.
