BIBA: Wedding insurance is different to holiday insurance

The specifics of wedding insurance have been explained by the British Insurance Brokers Association (BIBA).

Spokesperson Peter Staddon said wedding insurance is not like holiday insurance.

He said a wedding brings different issues, which he listed as "the dress, the rings, the wedding refinery".

In addition, he warned: "Remember that there is a greater exposure regarding the wedding in respect of drink."

He also said that overseas wedding insurance would not necessarily cover a couple for the gifts received on the day.

"The baggage would have a limit, but some specialist insurers might give you an increase if your broker asks them."

He said that many gifts would be given after the day and at home, as it is unnecessary to take them abroad only for the couple to bring them back again.

More than half of people (57 per cent) would consider marrying abroad, according to research from easier.com.

This is mainly to try to prevent family feuds on the big day, although marrying in the UK can cost almost six times more than an overseas ceremony.
