Clydesdale Bank insurance says burglar deterrents not fool-proof

A representative from Clydesdale Bank insurance has highlighted how determined burglars are often able to break into houses despite many active security measures.

Retail director at the firm Steve Reid stressed it is sensible for people to take precautions to prevent burglaries from happening, but they should be aware that sometimes the criminal may manage to get in.

His comments follow research by Clydesdale Bank insurance, which showed that about one in four houses in the UK do not have home contents insurance.

Mr Reid said: "Adequate home contents insurance can't stop the crime from happening but it can ease the burden should the worst happen."

The firm highlighted double-deadlocks, outdoor sensor lights and window locks as some of the best deterrents against burglars.

Clydesdale Bank recently celebrated winning the best new banknote series and best public education awards ahead of participants from more than 75 countries at the International Association of Currency Affairs Conference.
