Halifax Home Insurance warns of impending darkness

With the clocks going back on Sunday 25th October, Halifax Home Insurance has informed consumers that they may want to take steps to ensure that burglars do not use the darkness to try and break into their homes.

Martyn Foulds, senior claims manager at the organisation, pointed out that sometimes darkness can assist a burglar in their attempts to rob a house.

Halifax Home Insurance has recommended that people install burglar alarms and security lights, as well as making sure that windows and doors are locked - even when people are at home.

Mr Foulds said: "It is not only the financial loss that we want to protect people from, but also the distress caused by knowing a stranger invaded the home."

The financial services provider also recommended starting up a neighbourhood watch group or joining an existing one.

Last month, Halifax Home Insurance announced that 17 per cent of homeowners have had major problems with neighbours in the past year, which is the highest percentage for 12 years.
