AA: Home buildings insurance on the rise

Over the past three months, average quoted premiums for home buildings insurance increased by 1.4 per cent to reach £218.60, the AA Index findings reveal.
In the previous quarter, average premiums rose by three per cent, which was the largest single jump ever recorded by the index.
John Close, insurer relations director at the AA, said that buildings insurance premiums have risen to their highest level since the index was started in 1994.
He suggested that the government should make sure its climate change bill has "robust provisions" for making new buildings resilient to storms and flooding.
"Local authorities must also think through where new housing is built – it will help no-one if families find their homes are uninsurable because of where they are located," Mr Close added.
Late last year, AA Home Insurance warned British homeowners about the dangers of leaving outdoor furniture uninsured.
