Sainsbury's Car Insurance: Motorists should protect themselves

Sainsbury's Car Insurance has warned motorists to make sure they are careful when leaving their vehicles unattended while warming up their engines.

According to Sainsbury's Car Insurance, some 333,000 households have had their cars stolen in this type of situation during the past five years.

Joanne Mallon, Sainsbury's Car Insurance manager, explained that "it can be tempting" to leave a vehicle while the engine is running, particularly while getting ready in the morning.

"But this could have terrible consequences and you may find that you're not insured against it," she cautioned.

Some other winter weather recommendations given to drivers by Sainsbury's Car Insurance include checking the battery, ensuring there is antifreeze in the car, making sure the vehicle has undergone a winter service and using headlights during rain or snow.

Recently, Sainsbury's Home Insurance reported a rise in claims due to storms and harsh winter weather.
