Sainsbury's Home Insurance: DIY boom helps Brits save money

According to the survey, nearly two-thirds of adults in the UK have performed some kind of DIY task around the home in the last 12 months, rather than paying for a professional.
Sainsbury's Home Insurance calculates that this hands-on approach to domestic maintenance may have saved Brits a total of £49 million in the space of one year.
However, Joan Mallon, Sainsbury's Home Insurance manager, warned budding home-improvers to make sure they have accidental damage cover in place before starting work.
She added: "DIY is a great way to save money and the sense of achievement when the job's done can be tremendous, so don't ruin it by exposing yourself to calamity."
Recently, Sainsbury's Bank published figures which revealed that between 2007 and 2008, the number of loans taken out to fund home improvements increased by 53 per cent.
