AA launches car insurance for younger drivers product

A new product launched by the AA is aimed at helping youngsters develop their ability behind the wheel, a spokesperson for the company has claimed.

Director of AA Insurance and the AA Driving School Simon Douglas suggested that the firm's new Learner Driver Insurance could provide an "affordable solution" for parents who want to help their children learn to drive.

He explained that many people are put off adding youngsters as named drivers on their policies because of the cost, which means their offspring do not build up as many "driving hours" as they could do.

"It's vital that young drivers gain as much experience as possible while learning, in addition to their formal driving lessons," stressed Mr Douglas.

In his view, spending more hours behind the wheel could ensure that young motorists develop the ability to drive a car safely.

Last month, the AA noted that protection premiums went up by 11 per cent, according to its British insurance premium index, with a major factor of this change being down to fraudulent claims.
